CDWR DEMANDS ADEQUATE PUBLIC FUNDING OF HEALTH SECTOR

The Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights (CDWR) supports the strike action of the Residents doctors.
The Resident Doctors are agitating for the payment of COVID-19 Inducement Hazard Allowance owed to them. The Resident Doctors are also demanding the placement of Resident Doctors on CONMESS 2019 adjusted salary wage scale and for the respective state governments to domesticate Medical Residency Training Act as passed by the National Assembly. If these demands are met, it will motivate the Resident Doctors for better service.
It is unfortunate that the healthcare sector just like other key sectors has been underfunded due to long years of implementation of neo-liberal capitalist policies. This has created a class of the privileged rich who constantly embarks on expensive medical tourism while the neglect of the health sector continues.
CDWR demands that all demands of the Residents Doctors, Nurses and other medical and healthcare workers should be met. CDWR also demands adequate public investment in public healthcare to guarantee free and quality healthcare for all.
CDWR call on the resident doctors and other healthcare workers to unite in a struggle to reposition the healthcare sector. We also call on the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to intervene in the strike in solidarity with the doctors.
