PDP NWC Debunks Alleged Suspension of Party Leaders In Niger

March 30, 2021

Press Statement

PDP NWC Debunks Alleged Suspension of Party Leaders In Niger

The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to some spurious claims by some misguided persons, of a purported suspension of some leaders of our great party from Niger state.

The national leadership cautions those behind the claims to desist from such, particularly, in misguiding some party officials to attempt to assume situations that are beyond their statutory powers.

For emphasis, the powers and functions of all organs of our party at all levels are as clearly spelt out in our constitution and should be strictly adhered to.

The provisions of our party’s constitution is very clear about suspension of the members of National Executive Committee
(NEC) and as such, we caution those indulging themselves in such lawless activities to desist henceforth.

In this regard, the National Working Committee (NWC) calls for calm and urge all our leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our great party in Niger state to remain united and continue to work together and resist attempts by enemies of our party to distract us from the task ahead.

Buhari’s Overseas Treatment, A Badge of Failure -PDP …Asks Mr. President to Think of Other Nigerians

March 30, 2021

Press Statement

Buhari’s Overseas Treatment, A Badge of Failure -PDP
…Asks Mr. President to Think of Other Nigerians

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the routine overseas medical checkup embarked by President Muhammadu Buhari is a direct indictment of his Presidency over its failure to fix our healthcare system, which has been wrecked by his administration.

It is indeed worrisome that under President Buhari, even the hitherto highly rated State House Clinic, has become so moribund that it cannot provide a simple medical checkup service for Mr. President.

While the PDP has nothing against where any person, including President Buhari, seeks his or her medical services, our party is worried that the Buhari Presidency is taking no decisive steps to fix our health care system, ostensibly because Mr. President can afford overseas medical treatment at tax payers’ expense.

The PDP is disturbed that while Mr. President jets out for medical treatment in well-equipped hospitals abroad, our hospitals and medical personnel are in very sorry situation while millions of our compatriots suffer, with many dying on daily basis from conditions that have simple medical solutions.

It is indeed heartrending that Nigerians are suffering this huge misfortune of having this highly insensitive, incompetent and corrupt leadership of very selfish individuals who do not care about the welfare of other citizens.

More saddening is that all the institutions, policies and programmes established by the PDP, which hitherto ensured access to affordable healthcare for Nigerians have been wrecked by the Buhari administration.

Our party urges President Buhari to show leadership by reflecting on the fact that millions of Nigerians cannot afford overseas treatment and have become despondent by his failure to take decisive steps to address our national healthcare needs.

President Buhari must know that his duty as President is not only for his personal needs but more importantly for the needs of the generality of Nigerians.

The PDP however calls on Nigerians to remain calm and not resign to despondency as we collectively work to rescue our nation from the stranglehold of misrule.

PDP Rejects High Court Judgement on Imo North Senatorial Bye-election

March 22, 2021
Press Statement
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejects in its entirety, the March 18, 2020 judgment by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue Certificate of Returns to Sen. Ifeanyi Araraume within 72 hours.
This judgment further heightens our fears that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled Federal Government is bent on using certain officials within our judiciary to suppress the opposition and subvert the will of the people.
Our party wonders how could a matter which has been decided by the Supreme Court be overruled by a Federal High Court
It was clear to all that the Supreme Court on February 5, 2021, upheld the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which nullified the candidature of Sen. Ifeanyi Araraume as APC candidate for Imo North senatorial district bye-election. That verdict of the Supreme Court put to rest the candidature of Sen. Ifeanyi Araraume.
It is therefore bizarre that a Federal High Court presided over by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, which Sen. Ifeanyi Araraume had approached to declare him the authentic candidate and order INEC to issue him Certificate of Returns had done so in flagrant disregard to the Supreme Court ruling on same matter.
Our party holds that this is a direct miscarriage of justice, which poses great danger not only to our democracy but also to our survival as a people and should not be allowed to stand.
For the records, our candidate for the December 5, 2020, Imo North senatorial bye-election, Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu, polled the highest valid votes cast at that election since courts of competent jurisdictions disqualified the two APC candidates, Sir Frank Ibezim and Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, less than 24 hours to the election.
On the strength of the disqualifications, the names of these two candidates were conspicuously excluded by INEC in the final list that was released. They were not part of the total election process.
Moreover, INEC’s refusal to declare Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu of PDP winner after the election quickly sold the electoral umpire out as being under heavy influence of superior power.
Had INEC done the needful at the time of the election by declaring Chief Okewulonu the winner, we would not have come to the current sorry pass where conflicting judicial orders are being churned out every second.
We therefore reject this recent judgement and call on INEC to handover the Certificate of Returns to Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu, who is the authentic winner of the Dec 5, 2020 Imo North senatorial bye-election, sequel to the ruling of the Supreme Court.

2023: PDP Clarifies on Committee’s Report on Zoning

March 23, 2021
Press Statement
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clarifies that it has yet to adopt any position on the zoning ahead of the 2023 Presidential elections.
The party further explains that it has not taken any decision on any of the recommendations proposed by the Senator Bala Mohammed-led PDP Committee on the Review of the 2019 Elections.
The PDP immensely appreciates the overwhelming interest by majority of Nigerians in the PDP as their national rallying point to elect a pan-Nigeria, unifying and people-oriented leadership that would rescue our nation from misrule, come 2023.
Our party notes that such unprecedented public interest and confidence in the PDP is responsible for the widespread discussions and enquiries on the recommendations of the Committee on the Review of the 2019 Elections.
The PDP notes that the recommendations will be subjected to its democratic process by relevant organs of the party and consultation across all national interests.
While our party appreciates the enthusiasm by Nigerians on our nomination processes, the PDP assures that its decision on zoning will be the product of wide consultation, discussions and consensus building, taking into consideration the aggregate aspiration and hope of the generality of the Nigerian people.
Our party has however noted the disposition and line of discussion from various political interests across the six geo-political zones of our country in this regard, and at the appropriate time, the collective understanding of Nigerians will prevail.

You Must Leave In 2023, PDP Replies APC Over Boasts of Extra 26 years Rule

March 23, 2021
Press Statement
…Says APC Cannot Beguile Nigerians Again
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) describes the spiteful bragging and hallucination by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain in its misrule for the next 26 years, as a direct confrontation to the generality of Nigerians, who had already reached a national consensus to kick them out of office, come 2023.
The PDP also describes APC’s claim of registering 36 million Nigerians in their failed fictitious registration exercise as another political hoax and empty claim, which cannot sway Nigerians in any way.
The PDP is aware that the APC National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni made such a garrulous statement in the belief that APC’s intimidation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the judiciary and security agencies as well as deployment of thugs from neighboring countries, will help them to subvert the will of Nigerians in future elections.
In Buni’s whims and thoughtlessness, Nigerians should make themselves ready for another 26 years of anguish, pains, hunger and starvation, insecurity and limitless suffering. This is the height of recklessness, insensitivity and affront to the sensibilities of Nigerians.
The PDP counsels the fizzling APC to end its pipe dreams and arrogant boasting and wake up to the reality that its tenure in office as well as its life as a political party will meet an inevitable end in 2023.
Governor Buni and his co-travelers in the illegal APC National Caretaker Committee must note that Nigeria is not their personal estate or the vassal of any group of power mongers.
The APC ought to know that Nigerians have never been and will never be suppressed or conquered by any political interest. In fact, Nigerians are now, more than ever before, ready, willing and prepared to resists the APC in its plots to use manipulations to perpetuate itself in power.
It is incontrovertible that if our nation goes into a midterm election, the APC will not get up to 20 percent of the votes cast. They should therefore stop addressing Nigerians like a conquered people with no voice, will and aspirations.
The party asserts that Nigerians are already set to deal the APC a death blow at the polls in 2023, as they have since reached a definite conclusion that there is no way our nation can survive if the APC is allowed to remain in power beyond 2023.
The PDP therefore counsels the APC to know that its Contact and Strategy Committee is of no moment as Nigerians have suffered under its rule and cannot afford to allow it to be in power a day beyond May 29, 2023.

PDP Hails Court For Jailing APC Rigging Prof…Says More Will Be Brought to Book

March 25, 2021
Press Statement
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) commends the judiciary for its courage to stand on the side of the people to jail one of the corrupt returning officers, who connived with the All Progressive Congress (APC) to rewrite election results against the PDP in the 2019 general elections.
The party said the three years jailed term handed to Prof. Peter Ogban, a professor of soil science at the University of Calabar, for manipulating the result of Akwa-Ibom Northwest senatorial election and attempting to foist the APC and its rejected candidate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on the people, is a huge lesson for compromised individuals working for the APC to subvert the will of the people.
The PDP asserts that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with other corrupt returning officers, including some shameless professors who were heavily bribed and compromised by the APC to alter results and rig it into power at various levels in the 2019 general elections.
It is shameful that individuals who had attained the peak of enviable career in the academia could submit themselves as willing tools in the hands of a fraudulent, debased and manipulative political party, like the APC, to alter election results and subvert the collective will of the people in the 2019 elections.
Such individuals can now see the deplorable situation of economic depression, excruciating hardship, terrorism, killings, kidnapping, social and infrastructural decay, which their fraudulent and unpatriotic action has plunged our nation.
If these unpatriotic elements had not manipulated our electoral process in favour of APC and allowed the will of the people to prevail, our nation would not have found herself in this sorry state.
Our party holds that this courageous judgment would stand as a deterrent to the compromised returning officers and a signal to the APC that result alterations will have no space in the 2023 general election.
Ahead of the off season elections as well as the 2023 general elections, the PDP urges Nigerians and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain vigilant as more effort is being made to bring other compromised electoral officers, who brought the present misfortune on our nation, to book.

Abia Bye-Election: PDP Relishes Victory, Mocks APC

March 28, 2021
Press Statement
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says its landslide victory in the Aba North/South Federal Constituency bye-election has firmly established its superiority, particularly over the All Progressives Congress (APC), not only in Abia state and the Southeast geo-political zone, but also across the nation.
The PDP said the fact that it flogged the boastful APC and its rejected candidate with 10,322 votes against a paltry 3,674 is a direct confirmation that the APC has no foothold in the Southeast and that its bragging of having penetrated the region is an empty hype.
Indeed, our party’s resounding defeat of the APC in Aba, a major commercial and social hub and the nerve center of the southeast, has further established the Southeast as an undisputed stronghold of the PDP.
The outcome of this election serves as a foretaste of the crushing defeat that awaits the APC in the zone, come 2023.
Moreover, the sweeping victory by the PDP over the APC, in an area like Aba, has further shown that the people of the Southeast and Nigerians in general, are no longer carried away by the lies, deceit, falsehood and empty promises of the APC, a party that has brought so much pain and anguish to our nation.
The APC and its leaders had, in particular, held the southeast in utter disdain in their utterances, body language and actions, and as such, should not expect anything less than such a loud rejection by the people at the polls.
Moreover, this election serves as a lesson to the APC that Nigerians are no longer ready to allow the APC to use its manipulations, violence and compromised officials to steal votes and foist its candidates on the people as they did in the 2019 general elections.
Our party congratulates the leaders of PDP in Abia State, particularly the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and the people of Aba North/South federal constituency for asserting themselves in the election and urged them to remain united for the task ahead.
The PDP also congratulates the member-elect, Chimaobi Ebisike and urged him to hit the ground running, immediately after his swearing in at the National Assembly, to give his people the required representation in line with the manifesto of the PDP.

Abuja-Kano Road: PDP Demands Review of N2:12bn Per Kilometer Road Cost

March 29, 2021
Press Statement
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demands an immediate review of the 375 kilometer Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road reconstruction contract, following the unearthing of corrupt padding in the N797.23 billion contract recently approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
The party also demands for an open probe into the criminal padding of the contract from the original N155 billion to an outrageous and indefensible N797 billion, with a whooping N642 billion apparently earmarked to be shared among corrupt officials.
With the approved N797 billion, for a 375 kilometer road, the Buhari Presidency is claiming to be reconstructing a kilometer of road with an outrageous and inexcusable N2.12 billion; an huge slap on the sensibilities of Nigerians.
While our party restates our total support for the reconstruction of this very important road, the PDP insists that it will be against the interest of the nation to allow criminal elements in the Buhari administration to hide under the project to steal a staggering N642 billion which ought to be channeled to other projects that would benefit the people.
Our nation was jolted a the level of corruption in the Buhari presidency wherein Mr. President could approve a fraudulent contract padding to the tune of N642 billion at the time our nation is battling with serious economic challenges and infrastructural stagnation.
The PDP charges President Buhari to heed to the demands by Nigeria and immediately effect the review in the interest of the nation, before any releases are made.
The review by Mr. President would douse tension already generated by the revelations of this attempt by fraudulent officials to swindle the nation as well as restore the confidence of the people in our system.
Our party holds that the N642 billion which would recovered through the review should be channeled to fix other important roads in the region as well as other parts of our country, which have become death traps following a distressing neglect by the Buhari administration.
Moreover, the PDP tasks the Buhari Presidency, to come clean on this blasphemous attempt to swindle our nation, by instituting and allowing an open investigation on this criminal act by relevant statutory bodies including the National Assembly and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The PDP demands that the investigation should cover the office of the Secretary to the Federation, the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing the Office of The Accountant General of the Federation, the Budget Office as well as other officials of the Buhari administration connected with the criminal contract inflation.
What Nigerians expect now is for Mr. President to show that he has not been overwhelmed by the corruption in his Presidency by taking decisive steps to investigate the matter and ensure the prosecution of all those involved, no matter how close they are to him.

Missing N25tr: Corruption Is on Auto Pilot Under Buhari, APC, Says PDP

March 29, 2021
Press Statement
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says that with the reported disappearance of a fresh N10.1 trillion from the national treasury, it is clear that corruption is on daily auto-pilot under the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Our nation has again been jolted by reports in the public space that a whooping N9.6 trillion ($20 billion) and another N500 billion belonging to the Treasury Single Account (TSA), have been reportedly missing and allegedly diverted to APC interests.
This fresh N10.1trillion scandal is beside the earlier N15 trillion, reportedly stolen by APC leaders from various government agencies, including the stealing of N9.3 trillion as detailed in the leaked NNPC memo, bringing the sum looted in these cases to N25.1 trillion.
It indeed speaks volumes that while the Buhari Presidency is claiming that it has no funds to finance the 2021 budget of N13.08 trillion, a humongous N10.1 trillion belonging to the nation is said to have disappeared into the thin air.
The PDP expresses concerns over the level of rapacious looting by the APC leaders and the cabal in the Buhari Presidency, stressing that, it is clear that our nation has been seized by ferocious economic brigands in very high places.
Under the APC, our nation has become one of the most corrupt countries in the world, having dropped 13 places since 2015 and plunging to a putrid 149th place on the corruption perception index as released by Transparency International (TI).
Only recently, Nigerians were shocked by revelations that trillions of naira meant for purchase of arms to defend our nation could not be traced.
The PDP invites Nigerians to note that the Buhari Presidency and the APC has not been able to account for the N15 trillion earlier reportedly looted from various agencies of government, including the stolen N9.3 trillion NNPC fund, the N1.1 trillion worth of crude stolen with 18 unregistered ships as well as various oil subsidy sleaze.
This is in addition to the N3 trillion reportedly stolen from various agencies including the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in which a very top APC government official was indicted, as well as the Social Investment Programme, where the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, exposed that N500 billion was siphoned.
The PDP invites Nigerians to unite in demanding for the recovery of the N25 trillion, which our party insists should be directed to critical sectors of youth development, job creation, infrastructural development and security.
