PDP Candidate, Obaseki, will win a second term as Edo State Governor

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Sunday received the full backing of leading activists, civil society groups, lawyers, journalists and political leaders from all parts of Edo State.

‘’Governor Godwin Obaseki is the best politician in the state’s current history. We’re looking forward to his reelection’’ the professionals said.

At a meeting to share perspectives and strategies on how to ensure the victory of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, the professionals vowed to retire All Progressives Congress (APC) former national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu from Edo State politics.

‘’Governor Godwin Obaseki’s re-election is certain. The road ahead is so smooth”

Edo State Professional spokesman, Dr Joseph Alli, in a statement in Ekpoma, said the professionals extolled Obaseki for building strong communities, generating growth and creating opportunities for the good people of Edo State.

‘’Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is not travelling well in public opinion polls, largely due to past records. He lacks a clear policy plan. His political appeal remains limited’’

The professionals praised Obaseki for fulfilling electoral pledges made in 2016, building roads, expanding business development and empowering the people.

‘’ Governor Godwin Obaseki is very committed to the future of Edo State. He will continue his efforts to make Edo State great’’.

They vowed to resist all attempts to drag Edo State backward by enemies of progress.

‘’Greed and envy have set in to becloud the sense of reasoning of some individuals in Edo State. A window of opportunity is still open to them to join Governor Godwin Obaseki. PDP is stronger than APC in Edo State’’

The professionals highlighted economic growth in rural communities, the welfare of workers in the state, investments in electricity, clean water and better health care.

They also emphasized a better educated, healthier and more prosperous Edo State.

‘’Nothing is more critical to our state’s future than urging Godwin Obaseki to continue in Government House’’

In 2016, Obaseki defeated Ize-Iyamu. Governor Obaseki is expected to cruise to victory in the September 19 governorship election despite opposition from Adams Oshiomhole, Pastor Ize-Iyamu and some individuals outside Edo State.

‘’We care about results. Obaseki’s standing in the polls is, in fact, formidable’’

Afegbua rejects Obaseki , backs Hon. Ogbeide-Ihama

Mr. Kassim Afegbua, a former Commissioner for Information said: “The idea of having Governor Obaseki in PDP is already causing some ripples within the party because it will amount to political ambush”.

“First, the purchase of nomination forms has closed. We have three viable aspirants running. I am supporting Hon. Ogbeide-Ihama for the primaries and hopefully he will emerge as the candidate.

“If a candidate emerges on Saturday, are you expecting the candidate to step down for someone who did not participate in the process, simply because he is a Governor? That will not only be an ambush, but an unfair reading of the situation.

“The governor is free to join the party. It is his constitutional right, but joining is one, becoming a candidate is another. He should join to support whoever emerges as the candidate, to face the APC candidate.

“Rather than be the candidate, which appears difficult at this injury hour, he should join hands with other party loyalists to ensure the APC is defeated. That would be like some kind of soft landing for him.

“Again, the Party has to understudy the report of the APC screening committee especially the obvious discrepancies in his submissions. You cannot have two certificates from one university bearing inconsistent dates with all manner of contradicting submissions.

“Beyond politics, the APC might have derived inspiration from the Bayelsa scenario, which the PDP must take notice of, so that we do not fall into another cul-de-sac. “Please tell Obaseki to drop his ambition, and join hands with whoever emerges on Saturday in PDP primary to give a good fight to the APC.

Making him a candidate will be an exercise in overkill, an ambush, and an abuse of process in terms of our party constitution, our rules and regulations.”

Edo South leaders slam Oshiomhole over attack on Ogbemudia, Obaseki, others

Say battle against Obaseki is a battle against Benin Kingdom

Prominent Edo leaders on Sunday condemned the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomholefor his careless statements, warning him to be mindful of his actions.

Oshiomhole is under attack from over his outburst against prominent chiefs of the ancient Benin kingdom.

At a meeting in Abuja, the Edo South leadersfrowned at the manner Oshiomhole embarrassed notable sons and daughters of the zone.

‘’Adams Oshiomhole extended his hatred for the Benin people to Chief John Odigie Oyegun. He abused Chief Oyegun and hounded from office as APC National Chairman for him to take over Oyegun’s seat’’

The leaders, under the aegis ofEdo Collective Agenda of Nigeria (ECA), carpeted Oshiomhole for his incessant attack on the Benin traditional institution.

‘’Adams Oshiomhole extended his abuse and denigration to almost all notable sons of Edo South including the respected Benin Monarch, whose son he forcefully took his parcel of land”

A statement by theNational Leader of Edo Collective Agenda of Nigeria (ECA),Professor Osarodion Ehizogie, said the leaders scolded Oshiomhole for insulting the former military governor of Bendel State, Chief Samuel Ogbemudia.

‘’ Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia was humiliated by Adams Oshiomhole. He withdrew Ogbemudia’s vehicles from him when he (Oshiomhole) was the governor of Edo State. Adams Oshiomhole in his determination to wipe away the memory of Ogbemudia in Edo State demolished properties built by the Ogbemudia’s administration at the University of Benin forcing  the then Vice Chancellor, Professor Osayuku Godwin Oshodin, an illustrious son of the Kingdom, and others to be homeless’’.

The leaders vowed to stop the antics of the APC national chairman.

“We are here today to say enough is enough. Oshiomhole can’t humiliate Obaseki. He was voted by Edo People and the people who voted him are not complaining.”

They also blasted Oshiomhole for fighting the good people of Edo South.

“This is not a battle against the Governor Obaseki but a battle against the Sensitivity of the great Benin kingdom. The ancient kingdom of Benin can’t become a stooge to an individual. It is against our culture and tradition and we must not bow to Oshiomhole this time’’ the leaders said.
