LAGOS SET TO PRODUCE BRAND NEW CARS, AS SANWO-OLU SEALS AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY PLANT IN STATE

LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT

OFFICE OF THE CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNOR

PRESS RELEASE

LAGOS SET TO PRODUCE BRAND NEW CARS, AS SANWO-OLU SEALS AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY PLANT IN STATE

• Governor Unveils New Ride-Hailing Taxi Scheme

• Vehicle Assembly Plant Becomes Operational In 24 Months

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled a new e-hailing taxi scheme to redefine road transportation in the State. The Governor, on Thursday, signed partnership agreement with CIG Motors Company Limited for the take-off of “Lagos Ride” scheme with pilot fleet of 1,000 units of brand new Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs).

Also at the ceremony held at the State House in Marina, Sanwo-Olu formally sealed a Joint Venture Agreement with the automobile company for the establishment of Vehicle Assembly Plant in the State. In the next 24 months, Lagos will have a jointly-run factory for the production of different classes of brand new cars.

Establishment of the Vehicle Assembly Plant in Lagos was part of the bilateral agreements reached by the State Government and Chinese Investors’ Community when the Governor visited the Asian country in November, 2019.

IBILE Holdings Limited, a State-owned corporation, will be driving the two investment agreements on behalf of the Lagos State Government.

Sanwo-Olu said the new ride-hailing taxi was a social intervention programme initiated with an objective to create jobs and economic opportunities for residents of the State. He said the “Lagos Ride” scheme was in fulfilment of his administration’s desire to give residents a better choice in road transportation by offering a safe, efficient and modern cab model in line with policy thrust of his Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda.

The Governor said the taxi scheme, which is expected to fully take-off in the next 6 months, had been structured along a profitability model and designed to be self-sustaining for expansion and growth.

He said: “I am elated to unveil the Lagos State Taxi Scheme, which is another innovative policy of this administration targeted at making life easier for Lagosians, improving mobility and creating a seamless multi-modal transportation system. The scheme, which is to be known as “Lagos Ride”, is in fulfilment of our desire to give Lagos residents better transportation choices. The modern ride-hailing service is one of the State Government’s socio-economic intervention programmes, which will be professionally managed in line with global best practices

“Our social intervention programmes are tailored towards the eradication of poverty, provision of jobs and other employment opportunities as well as the provision of basic necessities, that make good governance our people’s reality. A major attribute of a modern megacity is a world-class transportation system with inter-connected services and mobility choices for the citizens. The task of bequeathing a safe, efficient, quick, and modern public transportation system is a key thrust of our administration’s development agenda. We are guided by the need for an equitable transportation system with mobility choices for our people.”

Under the taxi scheme, Sanwo-Olu said the Cooperative Society in the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment would give operators brand new SUVs for a period of four years, during which they would pay a monthly installment. At the end of the credit tenure, the operators will have the opportunity to fully own the cars.

The Governor said the scheme would offer operators flexible repayment plan and affordable savings for vehicles’ maintenance.

Sanwo-Olu said the establishment of the Vehicle Assembly Plant was in furtherance of his administration’s economic growth blueprint, stressing that the Joint Venture Agreement would revive industrialisation, drive up skilled youth employment and create wealth, boost tourism, and encourage technology sharing, adaptation, and advancement.

He said: “As we formally sign the Joint Venture Agreement for the establishment of Motor Assembly Plant, Lagosians should expect a roll-out of vehicles from this plant within the next 18 months. I urge other stakeholders and private investors to collaborate with us to sustain the scheme. We have the political and administrative will to ensure business survives in Lagos.”

Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladehinde, said the e-hailing taxi scheme was initiated, following the approval of IBILE Holding Limited’s proposal in the August 31, 2020 State’s Executive Council meeting.

He said the Assembly Plant and the taxi scheme would boost socio-economic activities and support the development of ancillary enterprises in transportation sector.

Chairman of CIG Motors Company Limited, Diana Chen, pledged the full commitment of the automobile firm to the agreement.

Ms Chen, who is also the Vice Chairman of China-Africa Business Council (CABC), disclosed that the automobile firm would sponsor 50 students for a two-year engineering training in a vocational school in China to strengthen its partnership with the Lagos Government.

She said: “My teams are ready to work with 100 percent effort to build GAC MOTORS in Nigeria in the highest level of a brand. This international Joint Venture Project will soon bloom up in the Chinese business communities both in Nigeria and China. I assure you that, we will use this partnership as a best example to introduce and promote a Greater Lagos where greater opportunities abound.”

The highpoint of the event was the signing of the partnership agreements by the Managing Director of IBILE Holding Limited, Mr. Abiodun Amokomowo, and the Vice Chairman of CIG Motors Company Limited, Mr. Linus Idahosa in the presence of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and Lagos Attorney General, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN.

SANWO-OLU, ANOTHER ‘ACTION GOVERNOR’ IN LAGOS, SAYS FASHOLA …As Minister, Governor Canvass Investment in Abattoir Business

OFFICE OF THE CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNOR

PRESS RELEASE

SANWO-OLU, ANOTHER ‘ACTION GOVERNOR’ IN LAGOS, SAYS FASHOLA

…As Minister, Governor Canvass Investment in Abattoir Business

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has described Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as ‘Action Governor’ of Lagos.

He said Lagos State has always produced Action Governors since the days of the first civilian governor of the State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande noting that Governor Sanwo-Olu, based on his quest to bring development to the people of Lagos State is another Action Governor.

Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of the new semi-mechanised abattoir for cows and goats under the Public-Private Partnership in Bariga, Fashola, who was a former governor of Lagos State, commended the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration for providing an enabling environment for Small and Medium Enterprises to thrive.

He said: “From Alhaji Jakande’s time till today, when a governor of Lagos State gives his word in public, you can take it to the bank. And that is why from the time of Alhaji Jakande to this time, they have always been called Action Governor. So, this is another Action Governor (Fashola pointing to Sanwo-Olu).

“I have nothing but commendation for your (Sanwo-Olu) government for providing an enabling environment for SMEs to thrive and for ensuring that the dream of turning a small butcher’s area into a semi-mechanised abattoir become a reality.”

Fashola while commending the facilitator of the semi-mechanised abattoir, Alhaji Olayiwola Niniola, said the essentials of progressive politics is the improvement of the human conditions, noting that the operations of the new abattoir will provide employment for about 800 persons.

In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu said his administration is committed to agriculture, adding that all the plans for the sector would be implemented.

The Governor while commending Alhaji Niniola for turning a small butcher’s area into a semi-mechanised abattoir, called on more private investors to contribute to the red meat value chain in Lagos State.

He said: “This is a clear example of ‘can-do’ spirit and I must commend Alhaji Niniola for transforming this place. Looking at the state of how this abattoir was years ago, it was such an unpleasant sight but now it is looking good.

“Lagos consumes over 50 per cent of animal production in the country. Lagos State has about 16 abattoirs, and about 11 of them are owned by Lagos State Government This is a clear demonstration of how small SMEs can grow into big ones.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu also promised that more road construction and other additional infrastructure would be carried out by his administration for development of Bariga and its environs.

Also speaking, Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, while stressing the need for more abattoirs in the state to cater for the needs of the people, canvassed for more private investment in the abattoir business.

Speaking on need for hygienic processing and marketing of meat, the commissioner warned that illegal slaughter slabs will not be allowed in the state.

SANWO-OLU MOURNS JAKANDE

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the passing of the first Civilian Governor of the State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

Jakande, a renowned journalist and elder statesman, who governed Lagos State during the aborted Second Republic between 1979 and 1983, died on Thursday at the age of 91.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, on Thursday said the late Jakande will remain one of the best public office holders in the political history of Nigeria based on how he transformed Lagos State and Nigeria during his tenure as Honourable Minister of Works.

The Governor said Alhaji Jakande popularly referred to as ‘Baba Kekere’ brought a lot of development to Lagos State as governor between October 1,1979 and December 31, 1983 in line with the five cardinal programmes of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), founded by the late sage and former Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The Governor also described the former Minister of Works as an epitome of honesty, dedication and selflessness, who used his elevated positions for the betterment of the people he served.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the late Alhaji Jakande is one of the few Lagosians and Nigerian leaders that demystified politics by bringing governance closer to the people.

He said Jakande left with impeccable records in Lagos State and that is why he remains till date, a reference point for governors in Lagos and other parts of the country.

He said: “On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I want to express my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and associates of the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande as well as members of the progressive community.

“No doubt, the death of Alhaji Jakande is a colossal loss to Lagos State and Nigeria. He made lots of positive impact and contribution during his lifetime to the growth of our dear State by introducing housing and educational programmes that targeted the poor, building new neighbourhood primary and secondary schools and providing free education for all.”

“Baba Jakande within his four years in office established the Lagos State University. His government constructed over 30,000 housing units, which were of great value to the masses.

“Having distinguished himself as ‘Action Governor’, Alhaji Jakande was appointed Minister of Works in 1993 where he replicated his developmental programmes, by building thousands of housing units in different parts of Nigeria as Federal Low Cost Housing Estates.

The Governor added that the late Jakande’s selling point is not only in politics but journalism, his chosen profession.

“Alhaji Jakande also made remarkable contributions to the media industry as a respected journalist and media manager. He used the power of the press to influence positive changes in the country’s social and political landscape.”

The Governor reminded Lagosians that the best way to immortalise ‘LKJ’ as late Alhaji Jakande is popularly known, is to ensure that good governance the deceased advocated spreads to every facet of the Nigerian society.

N16.6B For RSU Upgrade: Bro Obuah Lauds Gov Wike

…Describes Gesture As Boost To Rivers Educational System

Bro Felix Obuah, Sole Administrator, Rivers State Waste Management Agency, (RIWAMA), says the N16.6 billion approved for the upgrade of the Rivers State University (RSU) will open the frontiers of the Ivory tower for the educational upliftment  of the state.

The RIWAMA boss lauded the vision and bold step taken by Gov Nyesom Wike for the approval of the lump sum, describing it as a milestone.

With the approved fund, Bro Obuah noted, the State University is now well positioned functionally to establish the three campuses of the multi-campus institution in Emuoha, Ahoada and Etche respectively.

According to him, Gov Wike by this gesture has not only matched his words with action about the interest of his administration in education as a priority, but also launched the state educational system on the path of advancement in line with international standards for the benefit of Rivers people.

Bro Obuah expressed optimism that Gov Wike’s vision for the University will yield the expected results and enjoined all relevant authorities and stakeholders to queue into His Excellency’s programme  for the overall development of the state, stressing that education is the master key for progress in other sectors of the economy.

The RIWAMA boss also appealed to Rivers youths to take advantage of the planned facilities and programmes to be put in place at the State University with the approved fund and go for studies like the Medical Sciences that will address the pressing needs of the state, country and society at large, stressing that Gov Wike has creditably played his own part by laying a solid foundation for them.

“What the Governor has done is an uncommon feat which we had been yearning for, for a very long time to no avail. Now that God has given us a leader that has the wisdom, interest and political will to ensure our state and our people join other advanced societies in technological advancement through quality education for our children here at home, we must not let the opportunity slip.

Our collective wish and prayer should be more wisdom, strength and life for His Excellency for more of what he’s been doing in all sectors of our state economy which have endeared him to many across the globe.  I think the best appreciation to him is to queue into this vision and make best use of the opportunities for the benefit of our people,” Bro Obuah admonished.

RIWAMA Sole Administrator, Bro Felix Obuah Condoles With Nsirim Family

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State Waste Management Agency, (RIWAMA), Bro Felix Obuah has described late Mama Victoria Wejionwu Nsirim, the first wife of Nyenwe-Eli O.N. Nsirim, the Apiti of Rumueme, and Paramount Ruler of Rumueme Kingdom as a virtuous woman who lived a worthy and fulfilled life before her transition.

Bro Obuah made the remark when he paid a condolence visit to the Nsirim family to commiserate with them on the death of the matriarch of Rumueme Kingdom, and mother of Prince Timothy Nsirim, former executive chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, and now chairman Rivers State Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Agency.

The RIWAMA boss said though late Mama Victoria Nsirim transited at the ripe age of 93, her demise is painful and has created a vacuum very difficult to fill in the lives of her beloved ones.

He enjoined the bereaved family to take solace in the good works and legacies of their late mother, describing the death of the matriarch as the final awakening rather than the final step.

Bro Obuah said the best that could be done in this circumstance for the deceased was to keep her memory alive by activating her good works and legacies for the benefit of posterity.

He prayed the good Lord to grant the entire Nsirim family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, and the soul of late Mama Victoria Nsirim peaceful rest.

In his response, Prince Timothy Nsirim on behalf of the bereaved family thanked the RIWAMA Sole Administrator, Bro Felix Obuah for the visit. Prince Nsirim described Bro Obuah as a big brother who has always identified with the family at times of need, and prayed God to also show him and his family love and concern.

LASG SEEKS SYNERGY WITH NIMASA ON WATERWAYS, FERRY SERVICES

LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT

OFFICE OF THE CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNOR

PRESS RELEASE

LASG SEEKS SYNERGY WITH NIMASA ON WATERWAYS, FERRY SERVICES

•Lagos Is Best In Maritime Safety, Security – NIMASA Boss

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday expressed his administration’s readiness to partner and synergise with Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and other federal agencies in areas of comparative advantages for the growth and development of the State and Federal Government.

Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance while receiving the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh and other top officials of the federal agency, who paid a courtesy visit to him at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja on Tuesday.

The Governor while stressing the need for collaboration between Lagos State Government and the federal agency, enjoined NIMASA to work with the State in the areas of certification and training for small boat operators, removal of wreckages, improved coastline rotation and clearing of the waterways.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed that Lagos State is responsible for over 70 per cent maritime activities in Nigeria, said the State Government has put in place many plans and policies to improve the blue economy in Nigeria through business opportunities in the maritime sector.

He said the Lekki Deep Port will be commissioned before the end of his administration to decongest the Apapa Port, noting that several investments that Lagos is making in the maritime sector when completed will increase businesses and revenues for NIMASA.

“We are at the stage of completing 15 jetties in the state. We have moved over 250,000 passengers through our ferry services in less than a year. Our plan is to develop the waterways where people do a lot. It is a deliberate strategy we need to look at.

“As a government, we are ready to work hand in hand with you. We will commission the Lekki Port before the end of this administration so we can decongest Apapa. We are willing and ready. We want to see that real synergy,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the Director-General of NIMASA commended Lagos State Government for ensuring that the State is the safest maritime domain in the country based on how the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has addressed insecurity in the State.

Jamoh, who disclosed that 70 to 80 per cent of the goods coming in and out of the country are from Lagos, noted that in spite of high rate of insecurity in the maritime sector in the country, Lagos remains the only state that has the highest maritime security.

The DG of NIMASA said the maritime industry, if well harnessed could help the country diversify and end its reliance on oil, adding that the Blue economy, which is the use of the ocean for economic growth, will increase livelihood and enhance the wellbeing of our people.

He said the areas of partnership between Lagos State Government and NIMASA, will include fishery, safety on the waterways, ferry services, waste management on the sea, extension and development of the shipping industry.

SANWO-OLU WELCOMES FG’S MOVE TO DOMESTICATE COMMUNITY POLICING

LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT

OFFICE OF THE CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNOR

PRESS RELEASE

SANWO-OLU WELCOMES FG’S MOVE TO DOMESTICATE COMMUNITY POLICING

•As Police Engage Lagosians on Framework

•Organised Labour Hails Lagos Governor on Security

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has welcomed the idea by the Federal Government and the Police Force to integrate the concept of community policing into the formal security architecture of the State.

The development, Sanwo-Olu said, will allow security agencies to efficiently nip crimes in the bud and swiftly respond to security breaches before blowing out of proportion.

The Governor spoke at the event organised by the Police Force and hosted by the State Government to sensitise members of the public on community policing.

The event, with the theme: “Understanding Community Policing: A Framework for Action”, was held at the Banquet Hall of the Governor’s office and attended by Commissioners of Police in all the Southwest states, religious groups, traditional institution, labour unions, civil society groups, and chairmen of the 57 local councils in Lagos.

The mass sensitisation followed the approval of community policing strategy by the Federal Government to further localise the operations of the police.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Sam Egube, said the implementation of the community policing strategy was long overdue, given the nature of crimes and the need to enhance public safety.

The Governor urged residents of the State to embrace the initiative and volunteer information that would prepare security agencies to respond and isolate troublemakers in their communities.

He said: “The integration of community policing into the formal security architecture is a welcome development and this should be further encouraged with the keen participation of all members of the public, because they are the ones that can identify and provide timely information on security challenges.

“Our administration believes in ensuring and enhancing public safety and security as a critical requirement for economic growth and development. We shall continue to provide support for strategies that will ensure and enhance quality and effective security for the lives and properties of all residents.”

Sanwo-Olu admonished members of the public to be committed to the campaign in securing their communities in line with extant laws and regulations.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu, represented by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone II, Mr. Ahmed Ilyasu, said implementation of the strategy was to bridge the gap between the police and communities, stressing that the Police Force was ready to collaborate with critical stakeholders in the communities to achieve the objectives.

He said: “The concept of community policing in the 21st century has gone beyond the mundane approach of policing, rather than policing of the community. It is policing within the community that connotes security is every citizen’s business.

“Our community policing is a strategy of combating crimes and we are so passionate about it, as it is the only almighty formula in solving crimes, criminality and veritable measure in crises management situation in the nation.”

Vice President of Industrial Global Union, Comrade Issa Aremu, praised the police for the mass sensitisation, which he described as “timely”.

The trade union activist said it was time for the repositioning of the police for efficient service delivery as the agency at the centre of internal security. He called for more investment in equipment of the men in uniform and a reward system for those who distinguish themselves in the line of duty.

Given the Lagos population, Aremu said the introduction of community policing could not have come at a better time. He said the organised labour was proud of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dexterity in managing the security crises occasioned by Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and EndSARS protest.

Wale Okunniyi, who spoke on behalf of the civil society groups, expressed solidarity to the move towards community policing.

The event was also attended by Oba of Lagos, represented by Opeluwa of Lagos, Chief Lateef Ajose and AIG in charge Zone 17, Isaac Akinboyede.

Adeola Azeez, former chairperson of WIMBIZ, discusses major life lessons, and more #WithChude

As she turns 60 and formally retires from her role as deputy managing director of German multinational, Deutsche Bank Nigeria and chairperson of non-profit entrepreneurial network, Women in Business (WIMBIZ), seasoned business leader and financial operations specialist, Adeola Azeez shares many years worth of profound life lessons and wise counsel for the next generation of African business leaders with host and co-founder of Joy, Inc., Chude Jideonwo.

Speaking on some of the core values that guided her throughout her career, Adeola said, “Always be prepared. You know yourself, you know your capacity, your ability, what you want and what you don’t want. For the things you still want, always be prepared,” she said.

“One thing I have learnt in the past 4 years is to manage my expectations. So when I expect a position or a reaction from somebody that I thought was a walk-over and I don’t get it, I am hugely disappointed. So be prepared, manage your expectations,” she continued.

Adeola also implored the younger generation not to be unduly critical of people and situations as criticism breeds ugly results. “We are very judgmental in this environment, so don’t judge,” she said. “Those that judge, sometimes don’t like the outcome of it. When you judge, you already have a mindset about a particular person and then if it doesn’t turn out that way, some harm or damage could have already been done”

In her closing remarks, Adeola encouraged the youth to assume leadership positions in their chosen fields while standing on the shoulders of the outgoing ones. In her words, “The young have grown, and they are here to lead. So, you are not the generation of tomorrow. The leaders of tomorrow are here today. The only value that we are bringing to the table is experience.”

Even in retirement, Adeola Azeez continues to inspire many professional and entrepreneurial women across Africa, motivating them to take advantage of opportunities and make the most of their -God-given potentials.

Calm As Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Dekor Sues For Peace, Visits Feuding Communities

  1. Luu-Sue, Zor-Sogho Crisis

Calm As Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Dekor Sues For Peace, Visits Feuding Communities

Amid claims and counterclaims of ‘unprovoked’ attacks against each other, the hostility between Luu-Sue and Zor-Sogho communities in Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State, escalated on the night of Wednesday, February 3, 2021 with alleged killing of five persons and destruction of properties, leaving the areas deserted. But in a swift move aimed at restoring order, the lawmaker representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor visited the feuding communities on Saturday, February 6, where he appealed for calm, urging them to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign.

Accompanied on the visit by the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Hon. Lahteh Loolo; lawmaker representing Khana Constituency 1 in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Bariene Deeyah; his counterpart in Khana Constituency 2, Hon. Prince Ngbor and the Bori Divisional Police Officer, amongst others, Rt. Hon. Dekor charged the people to embrace peace and allow socio-economic activities back in the area.

Rt. Hon. Dekor who made his first stopover at Luu-SueTown square where the combined force of police and Khana security Planning Advisory Committee (KHASPAC), aided the gathering of the traumatized villagers for the visit, regretted that many residents had been turned into beggars, however assured that government would not leave any stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to book.

At Zor-Sogho, where the equally traumatized villagers sat under a large tree, to receive the august visitors, Hon. Dekor urged them to shelve their grievances as the Khana Council Chairman had summoned a security meeting to look into the matter.

He assured that government would be fair and unbiased in resolving the dispute, adding that their representatives at the local, state and national assemblies would join the Council Chairman to look into the matter and ensure that the right things are done to bring the needed peace in the area.

Addressing journalists shortly after meeting with the people, Rt. Hon. Dekor said he came primarily to condole with the Chairman and people of Sogho Community, stressing that he and his team had visited the feuding communities and also heard from both sides.

“We observed that there are elements of cultism and elements of some long standing animosity which date back to the year 2012. But by the grace of God, we shall join the Council Chairman to resolve the disputes once and for all. A security meeting has been summoned to take a look at the issue.

“The Chairman has also directed that both communities come with critical members of their communities who will also join us to seek permanent solution to the crisis. As a federal lawmaker, I will continue to play my role of ensuring the reign of peace and tranquility in my constituency and that’s why I am here”, he said.

Also speaking with journalists, Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Hon. Lahteh Loolo said he got the news of the attacks on Thursday and waded into the crisis by visiting the affected communities to ascertain the root cause of the matter.

“Having now heard from the two communities, we shall return to take a decision on this. From what we heard, it had been an age long crisis between them. The crisis unfortunately degenerated into a cult clash. But as a government, we shall do everything to nip the crisis in the bud”, he said and urged the people to remain peaceful while government come up with a solution.

The lawmaker representing Khana Constituency 2 in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Sir (Hon.) Prince Ngbor said his first reaction to the crisis was to meet the two warring communities who are his constituents and appealed for calm. Niger Delta leaders predict economic buoyancy

Night Delta leaders predict economic buoyancy

· Make case for Buhari’s administration

· Commend Sylva for creating 35,000 Jobs in Bayelsa State

Some prominent leaders in the Niger Delta region on Monday urged Nigerians to encourage the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in its efforts to create jobs, develop the oil rich Niger Delta region and tackle youth unemployment in the country.

The eminent leaders also praised President Buhari for his resolve to make the lives of all Nigerians better.

In a statement in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa State, the leaders praised the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva for going the extra mile, using his good office to pursue the Niger Delta cause and helping the business image of Nigeria in the international scene.

‘’Certainly, Chief Timipre Sylva has further shown that his politics is driven by character, integrity and development’’ the leaders said.

They emphasized the country’s vast endowments, revenue generation, supports for gas based industries and import substitution for methanol needs of the nation.

The leaders also emphasized Sylva’s approach to the development of the oil and gas sector, foreign direct investment, economic diversification, zero gas flaring and community development

Signed by the Chairman of the Niger Delta People’s Movement (NDPM), Mrs. Ibifuro Thompson Tatua, the leaders commended the management of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and DSV Engineering for the growth of the nation’s economy.

They pointed out that the signing of the Final Investment Decision (FIB) for the construction of 10,000 tonnes/day methanol production plant by the Brass Fertilizer and Petrochemical Company LTD (BFPCL, committing equity investment of US$670m was well timed.

The construction phase is expected to create 30,000 direct and indirect jobs and additional 5,000 permanent jobs during the operations phase.

The leaders described the FID, the Gas Supply Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) led joint venture, off-take agreements and contracts for Engineering Procurement Construction and Technology Provider as another benchmark in the history of Nigeria.

‘’It is a good development that is capable of yielding a beneficial outcome’’ the leaders said.

The statement said the Niger Delta leaders would continue to pray for the success of the President Muhammadu led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

President Buhari in July, 2020 approved the development of the Brass Gas Company with the sole aim of aggregating and monetizing all stranded gas in the Brass area.
